Norwegian membership in the EPC

The Norwegian Governement has decided to work towards a Norwegian membership in the European Patent Organisation.
 
As one of the last countries in Europe, the Norwegian Governement has decided to start a process intentionally leading to a Norwegian membership in the EPO. A hearing has been arranged this summer and will now be followed by the political process normally leading to a ratification of the European Patent Convention in Norway, most likely in January 2008.
 
The Norwegian Patent Office, Patentstyret, has been cooperating with EPO for a long time. The most important consequence of this cooperation has been for foreign applicants the conformity of Norwegian Patents and EP-patents. In this regards, the Norwegian Patent Attoneys are therefore used to the Euopean practise, which will be a great advantage if and when we ratify the EPC.
 
We are also glad to inform that our Patent Attorneys will become EP-attorneys under the "Grand Father-Rule".
