To be able to register a domain name under .no, the applicant must be registered as an organization in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities in The Brønnøysund Register Centre
, and the organization must have a Norwegian mailing address. All domain name applications must be sent via a registrar to Norid
, which is the Internet Domain Name Registry for .no. We will submit the registration through an approved registrar.
The registration of a domain name under .no prevents others from registering an identical domain name as long as the registration is maintained, but it does not give the Applicant any additional rights to the name. When submitting an application, the Applicant has to ensure that the registration of the domain name is not in violation of Norwegian laws or the rights of a third party. We can assist you in performing a preliminary search which will reveal which registered trademarks and business names already exist in Norway. At the same time we will give you a preliminary assessment of these prior rights. This will prevent you from violating someone else’s established rights when registering your domain name.
Conflicts related to the registration of domain names under .no are handled by the Norwegian Dispute Resolution Body, and we can assist you in preparing a complaint to this body. If necessary we can also bring the case before the courts.
