As a consequence of Norway's accession to the London agreement on January 1, 2015, the Ministry of Trade and Fishing has adjusted the official fees for validating European patents in Norway. The new official fees are
- Validation: NOK 5,500 (flat fee)
- Correction of translation: NOK 1,200 (flat fee)
The new fees apply to patents where a mention of the grant was published in the European Patent Bulletin on or after January 16, 2015.
For European patents issued before 16 January 2015, the old fees apply: NOK 1,200 for up to 14 pages + NOK 250 for each further page.
The new fees are good news for patentees holding patents with lengthy specifications (18 pages or more). For patentees holding patents of medium length (14 pages or less), the new office fees are bad news indeed, being 4.5 times higher than the old ones.
Norway acceeded to the London agreement in order to reduce the validation costs for SME's. You can find an article on Norway's accession to the London agreement here.
